The Director of the United States Department of Defense, Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA),Dr. Elizabeth S. DTRA director who was accompanied by other officials from the agency pledged to continue supporting the Institute to improve its levels of preparedness and reduction of any threat emanating from its work.

Headquartered in Fort Belvoir, Virginia in the US, DTRA's main functions are threat reduction, threat control, combat support, and technology development. Prof. Bukusi represented, Acting Director, KEMRI, Dr. Gerald Mkoji at the function.
