CENTRE RESEARCH MANAGEMENT
CENTRE’S RESEARCH MANADATE
Health systems research UNIT Health services research unit focus on community-based services, health policy analysis, and health economics and planning system development.
Public health nutrition, maternal and child health research – Epidemiology, interventional trials, nutrition biochemistry UNIT. Most research in this unit is based on topical issues in public health nutrition and maternal child health.
Population and behavioural sciences research UNIT
Environmental, occupational and Industrial health UNIT Research in this unit is based on topical issues in Occupational, Industrial and Environmental matters.
Epidemiology research UNIT Research in this unit focus on epidemiologic research to health-related knowledge by engaging in high quality independent and collaborative scientific investigation within and outside Kenya.
Biostatistics and bioinformatics and Computing research UNIT Biostatistics and bioinformatics and computing research- provides the essential methodological and quantitative underpinning necessary for much of public health, epidemiological and medical research in general including quantitative oriented procedures. Collaborate with other units of CPHR and other centres of KEMRI.
Oral health research and public health Unit This unit focus on the assessment of oral health needs. Carries out critical evaluations, derivation of appropriate indicators oral health, commissioning and evaluation of dental health services. Research and development in oral health. |



The centre director is the overall research manager of the centre supported by departmental unit heads and research scientists. Dr. Yeri Kombe is the current head of CPHR.
The centre’s research mandates are achieved through the following thematic areas: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics and Computing; Epidemiology Research Environmental Occupation and Industrial Health; Health Systems; Population and Behavioural Sciences; Public health Nutrition, Maternal and child health.
Research in this unit is based on topical issues in social science and demographic and fertility issues.
