Pathology & Oncology Research Unit (PORU) 

Head of Unit:    Dr Mutuma GZ. 

Current research programs:

  1. Cancer Registry Programme      Supervisor: Anne Korir
  2. Cancer of Oesophagus study
  3. My Child Matters Programme
  4. Non-Communicable Diseases Research Programme 
Facilities at the Unit:
  •  40 bed ward for inpatient care
  • Minor theatre for endoscopy services/studies
  •  X-ray and Ultrasound facilities
  • Laboratories for haematology and biochemistry (P1)

Reproductive Health Research Unit (RHRU) 

Head of Unit:    Dr Leah Kirumbi 

Current research programs

  1. Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention – Including Pap-smear, VIA/VILI
  2. Infertility –Assisted Reproductive Technology
  3. RTIs and STIs including HIV/AIDS
  4. Family Planning  

Facilities at the Unit:

  • Laboratory for semen analysis, sperm washing and Pap-smears
  • Cryotherapy
  • Colposcopy
  • AIH/AID

X- Ray UNIT: 

SERVICES.

The unit conducts various radiological examinations, Both X-ray and ultrasound.The service is available to Research patients, outpatients and staff.
The following services are available:
Ultrasonography          
  • General abdomen;
  • Obstetric (routine and anomaly scans);
  • Pelvic; and prostate
  • Small parts ( thyroid, testes);( we have small portable ultrasound machines which are utilized for field studies) 
General Radiology examinations.
With a general purpose radiography system we perform Chest X-ray examinations( detection of Tuberculosis and other chest conditions) Spinal (for the back and neck) extremities and many more. Specialized examinations like Hysterosalpingography ( examination of the uterus and fallopian tubes are also done).
Research work:
  • Schistosomiasis: diagnosis, grading and followup.
  • Fatty liver in HIV 
Other services.
  • Malaria Vaccine Trial.
  • Screening of HIV patients for PTB.
  • Leishmaniasis clinical Trials.
  • Complement the endoscopy services.
