What we do

At the CIPDCR we conduct research in HIV/AIDS & STD€™s, tuberculosis, leprosy, biotechnology, emerging & remerging diseases, malaria, geo-helminthes, fungal infections and public health. We are soon starting clinical trials. The centre runs a medical clinic, a pharmacy and diagnostic & research laboratories. In the near future the centre plans to provide ultra sonography services for which it has already acquired an ultra sound machine. The  centre collaborates with major research & training institutions.

Major Achievements

€¢ The prevalence of Leprosy has gone down to near complete elimination stage at 0.2-0.5/1000.
€¢ Single dose treatment of Fungal skin infection and Diseases-tinea capitis
€¢ Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV.
€¢ Offering  counseling to HIV/AIDS patients.
€¢ Early  Infant Diagnosis of HIV/AIDS making it possible to test exposed infants and those infected to access ART treatment fast.

Our infrastructure

The centre has the core equipment required for diagnostic services. For research, the center has assembled a turnkey laboratory for Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV. For immunology research, CIPDCR has renovated laboratories and acquired the latest equipment for CD4 enumeration and manual gating. For arbovirus work, a serology & molecular biology laboratory is being renovated. The equipment necessary for this work has already been purchased.
CIPDCR is assembling a data centre supported by Hewlett Packard and Clinton Health Access Initiative at a cost of USD 300,000. This data centre will not only support CIPDCR€™s telecommunication needs, but also data storage and management needs.

Our human resource capacity

Alupe harbors 15 research scientists, 11 laboratory technologists, 2 clinical officers, 2 nursing officers and 43 members of support staff.
