Two KEMRI scientists have been recognized for their outstanding contribution in the field of HIV/Aids in Kenya.

Dr. Thomas Odeny received ‘Young Investigator Award', while Prof. Elizabeth Bukusi was awarded the 'Clinical Research Award' during the inaugural Maisha HIV and AIDS Scientific Recognition Awards organized by the National AIDS Control Council Conference held recently on 31st May 2017.

Governor, Kwale County Salim Mvurya, tries to fit a lab coat presented to him by the Acting Director, KEMRI, Dr. Yeri Kombe, shortly after the unveiling of 100 acre piece of land donated to KEMRI by the County government to construct a research complex worth Kes. 15 Billion on Tuesday, 1st August 2017.

The complex will have among other facilities, research laboratory, Referral and Teaching Level five Hospital, manufacturing plant, Graduate School and conference halls.




 

Experts call for regional policy consideration on Tuberculosis laboratory diagnosis

East African countries are likely to adopt changes in Tuberculosis laboratory diagnosis and treatment of Malaria and Antibiotics use for diarrhea diseases following findings of a four year regional research project in the three diseases.

The findings presented at the 10th East Africa Public Health Laboratory Networking Project (EAPHLNP) Regional Project Steering Committee and Joint Stakeholders meeting at Arusha,

Tanzania on Friday, June 23rd, 2017 makes key recommendations with significant policy implications in public health care for the five regional countries of Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and hosts, Tanzania.
